Dia de los Muertos

Día de Muertos is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and in the Central and Southern regions of the country in particular. The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pray and commemorate friends and family members who have passed away, with the intention to support their spiritual journey. In Mexican culture death is viewed as a natural part of the human cycle. Mexicans see it not as a day of sadness but instead consider it to be a day of celebration, believing their loved ones wake up and celebrate with them.

I took these photographs during a stay in a small village in Oaxaca State on October 31, November 1, and November 2 2016.
